Clinging to the Cross
Romans 3 marks the moment where Paul moves from exposing our guilt to unveiling God’s rescue. After laying bare our suppression of truth and our habit of self justification, he silences every excuse with a chorus from the Law and the Prophets: none is righteous, no one seeks God, and even our best efforts cannot justify us. The law acts as a mirror, not a remedy. Then comes the stunning shift, “But now.” A righteousness from God has been revealed apart from the law, fulfilled in Jesus Christ and received by faith. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all who believe are justified freely by His grace. At the cross, God proves Himself both just and the justifier, dealing fully with sin while rescuing sinners. Boasting is excluded. Contempt collapses. What remains is humble dependence and a deeper love for grace that is given, not earned.
